The Northwest African American Museum is in the Central District of Seattle, in the old Colman school. The museum has a nice open layout….feels very spacious, but not in a sterile, uninviting way. There are permanent as well as temporary exhibits (photos of James Baldwin in Turkey when I visited), a gift shop, a library and geneaology research center… well as plenty of rooms/artist studio space for community events. If you have not made it out to NAAM, do it now! It’s an especially good rainy day activity – – I can vouch for that!

Dancing @ Dusk – Summers in Seattle

Posted in Dancing, Events, Photography, Seattle, Street Photography with tags , , , , on August 16, 2013 by jennytucker

Dancing @ Dusk is a really cool summer event hosted by Seattle Parks & Recreation – every Tuesday evening – dancing instruction by professional dancers, followed by open dance until the sun goes down. There were lots of smiles at this event, and it was good to see strangers interacting in such an intimate way with each other in downtown Seattle.

Chad and Kate - wedding 2010

A few of my portrait shots of the Elliott/Denton family have been published in the Huffington Post. Although family portraits are not the majority of my photographic work, I so enjoy spending time with loving families…and always strive to make sure that love shows through in my photos.

Come down to South Lake Union – see the Floating Farmers’ Market!

Down at South Lake Union near the Museum of History & Industry – in Seattle – they are reinstating an old tradition of Floating Farmers’ Markets. The Virginia V boat is host to local farmers and bakers selling their foods – every Thursday during the summer of 2013. Go down and support local farmers, and soak in the beauty of some maritime history as you walk the decks of the Virginia V.

Abandoned Flour Mill exploration

Posted in Abandoned, Photography, Seattle, Street Photography, Urban Exploration with tags , , on June 11, 2013 by jennytucker

I love this type of photography. I’ve always loved exploring abandoned places, even as a young child. I like imagining the stories of people who once lived and/or worked in these spaces….the people are gone now, but can somehow their stories can still be felt in the decay. At this location (as in most abandonments), the pigeons have found solace in the absence of people. There were buckets of old flour that seemed to almost have an intoxicating effect on these pigeons. It was really interesting to observe, while I waited for the torrential downpour to stop and allow me to take other shots.

Abandoned In Seattle

Four pieces from this “Abandoned in Seattle” series – 16X20 image-wrapped canvas pieces – hanging in the Ralph Iboshi Conference Room at KPFF Consulting Engineers – 1601 Fifth Ave, Ste 1600, Seattle WA 98101 through the month of June 2013.
The work looks beautiful within this newly remodeled space, and I hope the viewer sees in these pieces beauty, where they normally would not expect to see it.
